A New Chapter Begins for Unseenlabs

Unseenlabs, pioneer and global leader in space-based radio frequency (RF) services for multi-domain awareness, redefines global surveillance standards with the successful launch of BRO-31, our first Gen 2 microsatellite.

Initially focused on the maritime domain, our space-based RF detection lays the foundation for broader applications. These new capabilities support multi-domain awareness, extending to land and space monitoring.

UnseenlaBS' Gen 2: Space-Based RF Detection Across Maritime, Land and Space

Unseenlabs’ second generation of satellites (Gen 2) expands our space-based radio frequency (RF) detection capabilities beyond maritime surveillance to support multi-domain awareness across maritime, land and space environments.

By covering a broader range of radio frequencies while retaining our proprietary monosatellite architecture, Gen 2 enables the detection, identification, geolocation and characterization of a wider variety of RF emitters from space.

The first Gen 2 satellite, BRO-31, was successfully launched on July 7, 2026.

Our constellation brings together two generations of satellites (Gen 1 & Gen 2) to provide broader visibility into RF activity all around the globe.

From Maritime Domain Awareness to Multi-Domain Awareness

Since the launch of BRO-1 in 2019, Unseenlabs has used space-based RF detection to provide an independent layer of visibility into maritime activity.

Our satellites can detect RF emissions from emitters at sea, including vessels that may not appear through cooperative tracking systems such as AIS.

Gen 2 extends this approach beyond the maritime domain.

By observing a broader portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, our Gen 2 can provide information about RF activity associated with emitters operating across maritime, terrestrial and space environments. This additional layer of data can help our customers better understand activity in complex, remote or strategically important areas.

Our Gen 2 satellites are designed to detect bands

  • L

    1 to 2 GHz

  • S

    2 to 4 GHz

  • C

    2 to 4 GHz

  • X

    8 to 12 GHz

A Broader View of the Electromagnetic Spectrum

This broader frequency coverage significantly increases the range of RF emitters and activities that can be observed from space.

Depending on the environment and type of emitter, these signals can originate from systems such as:

  • GNSS Jammers
  • Satphones
  • Satellite Earth stations
  • Maritime navigation and surveillance radars
  • Cellular base stations

Unseenlabs can use these emissions to detect, identify, geolocate & characterize RF activity, providing information that can complement other sources of geospatial data.

The Call - RF Detection for Multi-Domain Awareness by Unseenlabs

How Does Gen 2 Detect RF Emitters from Space?

Gen 2, like Gen 1, retains one of the core technological principles behind Unseenlabs: our proprietary monosatellite technology.

Each Unseenlabs satellite operates independently, enabling a single satellite to detect and geolocate RF emitters across large areas worldwide, without relying on satellite clusters.

One constellation, Two Generations

  • Gen 1

    Focused on Maritime Domain Awareness

Our first-generation nanosatellites (approximately 15 kg) support the detection and geolocation of RF emitters at sea, providing an independent source of information about maritime activity.

  • Gen 2

    Designed for Broader Multi-Domain Awareness

Our second-generation microsatellites (approximately 150 kg) extend RF detection capabilities across maritime, land and space environments and cover a wider range of frequencies.

Two Complementary Generations

Gen 2 does not replace Gen 1. The two satellite generations are designed to operate as part of the same growing Unseenlabs constellation while addressing complementary requirements. Together, they broaden the range of RF activity that Unseenlabs can detect from space, expand our capabilities across new domains, and open access to new markets and applications.

We will continue launching Gen 1 satellites alongside Gen 2 satellites over the coming years.

Frequently Asked Questions on Unseenlabs' Gen 2

Ask Another Question
What is Unseenlabs' Gen 2?

Gen 2 is the second generation of Unseenlabs' satellites (microsatellite) for space-based radio frequency detection. It expands the company’s capabilities from focused maritime domain awareness to multi-domain awareness across maritime, land and space environments.

What does an Unseenlabs Gen 2 microsatellite detect?

Unseenlabs' Gen 2 satellites detect radio frequency signals. These emissions can originate from systems including GNSS jammers, satphones, satellite Earth stations, maritime navigation & surveillance radars, cellular base stations and other RF emitters operating across maritime, land and space environments. Unseenlabs can use these emissions to detect, identify, geolocate & characterize RF activity, providing information that can complement other sources of geospatial data.

Which frequency bands an Unseenlabs Gen 2 microsatellite detect?

Unseenlabs Gen 2 satellites are designed to cover the L, S, C, X frequency bands (from 1 to 12 GHz), extending the range of RF emitters that can be detected by Unseenlabs from space.

How is Unseenlabs' Gen 2 different from Gen 1?

Gen 1 is exclusively focused on maritime domain awareness. Gen 2 broadens Unseenlabs’ RF detection capabilities across maritime, land and space and covers a wider range of frequencies. The two generations are complementary and operate within the same Unseenlabs constellation.

Does Gen 2 replace Unseenlabs’ first-generation nanosatellites?

No. Gen 2 complements Gen 1. First-generation nanosatellites continue to provide dedicated maritime RF detection capabilities, while Gen 2 microsatellites expand the range of frequencies, emitters and environments that Unseenlabs can monitor. Unseenlabs will continue launching Gen 1 satellites alongside Gen 2 satellites over the coming years.

What is BRO-31?

BRO-31 is Unseenlabs’ first Gen 2 microsatellite. It was launched on July 7, 2026 aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Transporter-17 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
